Restorative Justice (RJ) is all about repairing harm and building relationships. Instead of punishment, RJ focuses on accountability, understanding, and healing. RJ practices can resolve conflicts, restore relationships, and create a safer and more inclusive learning environment. Think of it like a reset button: RJ helps us start fresh and move forward in a positive way.
Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) is recognizing and respecting the diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences of students. CRT acknowledges that students come to school with distinctive histories, languages, and cultural practices and seeks to create an inclusive and affirming learning environment. CRT practices include creating inclusive curriculum, promoting cultural competency, and engaging with families and communities.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of developing the skills and competencies that help students succeed both academically and personally. SEL skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. SEL practices help students develop resilience, empathy, and the ability to manage emotions and relationships effectively.
Our Process
At WAM Academy, we pride ourselves on our collaborative and effective process. Here’s how we work with you to ensure that you receive development and support.
We kick things off by collaborating with all stakeholders and conducting pre-surveys to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement related to CRT, SEL, and RJ. The results will be used to set achievable outcome goals unique to your school or classroom's needs.
Together, we'll flesh out your implementation goals.
You'll receive expert training and coaching to implement our approach within your classroom or via the WAM platform.
We'll have two checkpoints to assess the impact of our work together.
If necessary, we'll work with you to modify established goals and ensure we're on track for success.
